SUMMARY:Walk for a Cure\, Walk for Life: Hosted by the Black Prisoners Caucus at Airway Heights Correctional Center
DESCRIPTION:Walk For A Cure  Walk For Life \nA cancer diagnosis is traumatic. It brings fear\, discouragement\, regret\, and other emotions that can unsettle our faith in God and leave us stranded in a dark despair. Cancer affects everyone\, both in and outside prison walls. But when you are in prison\, your loved ones and the community often battle it alone. So Airway Heights Corrections Center Superintendent Frank Rivera's Violence  Reduction Committee (VRC) and  the Black Prisoners Caucus (BPC) are organizing a Cancer Awareness Walk (Walk For A Cure\, Walk For Life) to stand in solidarity with friends\, family\, and community to honor those who are or were battling cancer and to raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Coalition in Spokane. \nThe Coalition provides comprehensive support to families navigating childhood cancer treatments and assists them in rebuilding their lives after cancer. This includes emotional and practical support\, educational resources\, patient advocacy\, and\, most importantly\, the reassurance that no child or family will ever face cancer alone. \nThe Cancer Awareness Walk will take place on September 8\, 2026\, and will include a one-half mile walk\, musical performances\, games\, and refreshments. All guests will receive an event T-shirt and bracelet. \nIf you and/or your group or organization are interested in participating in the walk\, please respond  to this email by August 5 to be placed on the list to receive a formal invitation from the facility. If you are unable to attend in person but would like to make a donation\, you can do so by going to the Donation Page for the Childhood Cancer Coalition and dedicating your donation in honor of Airway Heights BPC and VRC.
