On September 13th, Sandy’s birthday, the Carl Maxey Center invites the community to celebrate her life and honor her legacy in East Central. Sandy Williams was a powerful advocate, mentor, and champion for this neighborhood. The celebration will include a community kick-off and call to action: the first Walk & Roll Audit to support the 5th Avenue Forward project.

This is more than service—it’s a chance to carry forward Sandy’s vision of a thriving, connected East Central.

What to Expect:

• A birthday celebration and community gathering at Carl Maxey Center

• Kick-off of the Walk & Roll Audit: 1–2 hours walking an assigned section of East Central

• Distributing door flyers to inform residents (no entry into closed properties)

• Collecting notes to improve walk/roll accessibility along the 5th Avenue corridor

What Carl Maxey Center & 5th Avenue Forward Asks of You:

• Bring a friend or join others for safety

• Hydrate + dress for the weather

• Stick to your assigned section for full coverage of the neighborhood

• Respect residents’ wishes, this is not canvassing, just sharing flyers and info

• Sept 13th: Sandy’s Birthday Kick-off Celebration 🎉

• Sept 13th–30th: Independent audits available for those who can’t join the kickoff (separate entries to come)

• Sept 27th: Group audit day w/ refreshments at Carl Maxey Center

• Sept 30th, 4:00 PM: All audit forms due (return in person or email to admin@carlmaxeycenter.org)
